In reading some technical literature these days, it seems as though some companies new to the wireless industry are implying that the site survey is actually an unnecessary step in the entire process of constructing and implementing a wireless data acquisition, transmission and integration system. This could not be further from the truth.
FEDD believes an important first step of this entire process is to meet with plant owners and operators for a healthy discussion on current and future goals, issues and possible obstacles of any wireless data acquisition, transmission and integration project.
It is only in this discovery phase that we uncover such key issues as:
- What type of field instrumentation is currently in place?
- What type of data needs to be processed?
- Where is this data being received from? (farthest field instruments)
- Where is it going? (control room, other receipt points)
- Should data be routed to a single point – or multiple points? (yes, FEDD can do this)
- How will data be processed? (it's your choice)
... our SCADA software package
... an existing IO rack
... a serial rack interface
... Modbus protocol
